Rakhi Sawant on her upcoming film 'Ek Kahani Julie Ki’!

After spending more than a decade in the showbiz doing everything, from soaring the temperature high with her torridly hot item numbers in films and spicing up reality shows on television with her antics, Rakhi Sawant has done it all. But things never shaped up as nicely for this bold and ambitious actress as they should have been, till she landed the role of Julie in the upcoming film ‘Ek Kahani Julie Ki’. Yes, Rakhi Sawant is finally making her full-fledged debut as a heroine. Bankrolled under the banner of Chetna Entertainments, ‘Ek Kahani Julie Ki’ is slated to hit screens on 9th September. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood & TV Reporter, Mohnish Singh, Rakhi enthusiastically talks about her psycho-thriller film, her future plans and much more. Excerpts from an interview…

What interesting did you find in ‘Ek Kahani Julie Ki’ that you signed the film?
See, I am not at that level where I can demand much. I am an item girl and a producer has spent money on me and elevated me to the position of a heroine, from an ordinary item girl. It means a lot to me. I want to thank my producer Awadh Sharma from the bottom of my heart. I did not know what potential he saw in me and signed me for his film. I feel when I entered the industry I had a lot of potential for acting, but I never got an opportunity to show my talent. But I am happy that finally someone recognized my worth. Item girl Rakhi Sawant has finally become an actress.
As we all know that your film revolves around the Sheena Bora murder case. So, are you playing Indrani Mukerjea or her daughter Sheena Bora?
Initially, our film was entirely based on the said murder case only. Indrani has been my best friend. I have known Sheena and Peter as well. Since I knew almost all the people related to this case, the makers found me suitable for this role and roped in me immediately. But we had just shot almost 40 percent of the film when one day my producer received a threat call from Peter Mukerjea saying that if he continued to make this film, he would have to face severe consequences. I too received a thread call. But I don’t fear anyone. I am fearless. But since we did not want any kind of negative publicity around our film, we made some minor changes in the storyline and repackaged it. I play Indrani in the film. We have shown her journey since childhood.
It means you guys have taken a lot of cinematic liberties…
Yes. Like all Bollywood films, we too have added a proper dose of spice to make the film even more entertaining. But what the film shows or what people think of Indrani is not going to change my opinion for her. For me she is a real hero, a brave girl. I love her. Even if she has murdered her daughter, there will be many secrets which needs to be disclosed.
What kind of preparations you had to do to get into the skin of your character?
I don’t think I needed any kind of preparation for this role. I just talked to my inner self and tried to imagine what kind of circumstances would have been there which compelled a mother to murder her own daughter.
What is your message to all those girls who aspire to be like you?
I would just like to say that work hard, never take a short cut. I have struggled for more than ten years as an item girl in the industry before getting my first film as the leading lady. All heroines have turned item girls and an item girl has become a heroine. So all I want to say is that wear short skirts but never go for shortcuts.
Where has your film been shot?
We have shot our films at some beautiful locations in Dubai, Assam, Jaipur and Mumbai.
What are the future plans of Rakhi Sawant?
My future plans are to land on the moon! Let us see which planet I reach now, obviously with the help of my audience and the blessing of my God.
Apart from acting and dance, is there any other arena of the industry that you want to explore?
I don’t have such plans as of now. I just want to be in Bollywood. I want to dance and act and be with my family.
