Television is no longer an idiot box

It has been almost two years since our idiot box broke away itself from the popular saas-bahu stereotypes which used to cater to a large number of viewers. After the saas-bahu sagas, serials jumped to social themes to keep the audience intact. And the new entrant in this race is Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak which is being aired on Star Plus.
This new serial seems to leave others serials far behind in terms of boldness as it touches upon the subjects which were rarely discussed even behind closet. It deals with issues that are always considered taboo in a conventional and traditional society like ours, such as domestic abuse, marital rape, incest, infidelity and even subject like homosexuality.
Maryada, which claims to talk about subjects that prevails in male dominated society since ages, has been given a late-night slot on Star-Plus. The reason behind this move seems to be its mature content. Like most of the television serials, story of this serial also revolves around an array of four women which dare to raise their voices against the brutality that women have always been a witness of.
